Colin Touchin


Colin Touchin has a distinguished record of conducting and composing for young musicians including 8 years at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, and nearly 15 as Director of Music at the University of Warwick. He is currently Associate Conductor of London Charity Orchestra, frequent Guest Conductor of Essex Chamber Orchestra, Founder/Conductor of  Spires Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus in Coventry and the newly-formed 

Spires Youth Orchestra; in the last decade he was Conductor of Derbyshire  City and County Youth Wind Band and of Warwickshire County Youth  Orchestra, whom he led to the finals of Music for Youth and the Schools  Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in November 2011.

He founded Chetham's Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the British Universities Honours Band, Warwick Orchestral Winds, and the National Youth Recorder Orchestras. Amongst other activities he has conducted over a hundred concerts at the Warwick Arts Centre, including Mahler's Symphony of a Thousand, Bruckner's Fourth Symphony, the full Beethoven cycle, Tippett's Child of Our Time, and opera including Gluck Orpheus ed Eurydice, Tchaikovsky Eugene Onegin, Bizet Carmen.

He has conducted the National Youth Wind Orchestras of Great Britain,  Luxembourg, Wales, and Hong Kong; and the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra.  For nine years he was a regular conductor (orchestra, choir, wind band) at the Dartington International Summer School.

Colin has commissioned and premiered many new works and gained many awardswith orchestras, choirs and bands, including Gold-Open Class Final at the National Concert Band Festival, and Gold or Silver at every international choir  festival entered. His compositions have been broadcast on national and local radio and television; he is increasingly in demand to write to commission, and to lead workshops in conducting, clarinet, recorder, ensemble-coaching and adjudication, having given such presentations now in over 20 countries.
